Thank you everyone who was able to join us to celebrate Estonian Independence Day – Eesti Vabariik 107!
We enjoyed an exciting evening with several special guests, including Estonian Ambassador to Canada, Margus Rava, and Ellen Valter from Toronto, who introduced us to the KESKUS International Estonian Centre. This dynamic hub in Toronto will showcase our rich heritage and promote Estonian innovation, serving as a vibrant gathering place for the community.
The evening also featured a lively performance by the Nou Pois Äläud Dance Group, presenting Üleilma kokku, which delighted everyone with traditional Estonian dance and music.
Adding a personal and heartfelt touch, 9-year-old Maribel Muusika from Estonia performed a special song greeting for us: IGA MAA (Priit Pajusaar / Leelo Tungal). The song beautifully celebrates freedom, homeland, and the deep connection we feel to Estonia:
“IGA MAA – NII SUUR KUI VÄIKE – OLEMA PEAB VABA MAA.
IGAÜKS – NII SUUR KUI VÄIKE – TUNDMA PEAB END VABANA.
KÕIGE OMASEMAT KOHTA TUNNEME ME KODUNA.
OMA SÜNNIPAIGA KOHTA KÕNELEME: KODUMAA! …”
We also captured a group photo on the zoom where everyone was wearing Eesti kindaid (Estonian gloves).
In total, we had approximately 40 people join us at various points during our 1.5-hour celebration. It was a wonderful mix of community, culture, and connection, and the evening left everyone feeling inspired and proud of our Estonian heritage and friendships.
